Sociology Press "Trust in Emergence"

Visit The Grounded Theory Institute
Formed in 1970, Sociology Press has since been dedicated to keeping grounded theory material in print.

Students, researchers and those who teach grounded theory can choose from a number of publications listed within this catalog. The variety of published books includes models of dissertations 'grounded theory studies, and straight-forward, methodological "how to." In addition to books, Sociology Press has produced Readers which contain grounded theory papers, chapters and articles that have been personally selected by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D. These Readers help make up the catalog of knowledge which people doing grounded theory can use as a continual source of support. The need for grounded theory is growing, and as the need increases, so does the demand for accurate and informative grounded theory publications. Sociology Press will continue to keep you updated on this evolving and widely used methodology.

Dr Glaser's New Book

Doing Formal Grounded Theory: a Proposal (2006) by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D., Hon Ph.D.

Is there such a thing as formal grounded theory? Yes, there is in spite of the fact that it has received scant attention since we
first mentioned it in 1967. Thsi book defines its, developes its nature and uses and sets forth a method for generating formal
grounded theory.

THE GROUNDED THEORY PERSPECTIVE III: Theoretical Coding (2005)

by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D., Hon Ph.D.

This book is about staying open to the emergentwhen doing grounded theory (GT).
The full power of grounded theory comes with staying open to the emergent and to earned
relevance throughout the whole GT methodology process, but especially so with regard to integrating a GT with emergent theoretical codes (TC). Researchers seem to have the most trouble at this stage of generating GT – sorting memos and writing up the theory with emergent TCs. This book troubleshoots this problem by dealing with many facets of theoretical coding. It discusses TC emergence, new TCs, several sources of forcing TCs , the power of TCs, and grand TCs based on theoretical perspectives. The goal of these discussions is to help the researcher in staying open to the non-forced, non-preconceived discovery of emergent TCs.

Theoretical Sensitivity: Advances in the
methodology of Grounded Theory

by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D., 1978
The techniques and thought involved in grounded
theory have been advanced and elaborated on
since the original publication of the Discovery of
Grounded Theory: Strategies for Qualitative Re-
search. One purpose of this monograph is to up-
date the original publication by detailing only
what is new in the methodological processes of
generating grounded theory.

Basics of Grounded Theory Analysis:
Emergence vs. Forcing

by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D., 1992
This book, by Dr. Glaser, is a clear and cogent
correction of the many misleading ideas in Basics
of Qualitative Research, by Anselm Strauss and
Juliet Corbin, 1990, Sage Publications. Its cor-
rected view of the underlying logic of grounded
theory, will enable researchers to get on with
their research and keep up their productivity.

Gerund Grounded Theory: The Basic Social Process Dissertation.
edited by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D., 1996
The purpose of Gerund Grounded Theory is to
provide models for the grounded theory disser-
tation based on a basic social process theoreti-
cal code model. It gives the general idea of a
Basic Social Process dissertation and the
grounded theory methodology behind i~ The
models provide an orientation many rninus-
mentor students need: a "looklike" when noth-
ing else is available.

Doing Grounded Theory:
Issues and Discussions

by: Barney G. Glaser, PHD

This book is to get people "doing grounded theory" and "doing it" to the best of their ability. Toward achieving this goal, I will discuss the issues that emerged as I traveled to many parts of the world giving lectures, seminars and workshops on doing grounded theory.

The Grounded Theory Review

an International Journal -covering the state of Grounded Theory work around the world.

THE DISCOVERY OF GROUNDED THEORY:

Strategies for Qualitative Research.

Examples of Grounded Theory: A Reader
edited by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D., 1993

The general purpose of this reader is exampling -
not content and coverage. Any set of papers
achieves this goal. I trust the reader will enjoy the
content, but it is the theoretical construction of
these papers that should be studied.

More Grounded Theory Methodology:
A Reader
edited by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D.,
1994
This reader on grounded theory methodology
continues corrections begun in Basics of
Grounded Theory Analysis. It shows three main
correctives.
1) One can use scholarship in advancing
grounded theory methodology.
2) Articles from previous grounded theory books
that were neglected by Strauss and Corbin and
are seldom referred to in grounded theory are
republished to revitalize traditional grounded
theory and increase the researcher's armento
rium of tools of research.
3) It looks at the generation of formal theory by
use of grounded theory methodology.

Grounded Theory: 1984-1994
edited by Barney G. Glaser, Ph.D., 1995
In this reader, it is the ideas and their method-
ological generation that are important. The arti-
cles were selected to show the substantive areas
where grounded theory is being used and its
spread all over the world. Grounded theory has
penetrated the world of health sciences and busi-
ness where more truth is needed to tackle the
problems of important dependent variables.

The Grounded Theory Perspective:

Conceptualization Contrasted with Description

by: Barney G. Glaser, PhD, Hon PhD

How to deal with the people formed in other QDA and Quantitative methodological perspectives in terms of the GT perspective.

The Grounded Theory PerspectiveII:

Description's Remodeling of Grounded Theory

by: Barney G. Glaser, PhD, Hon PhD

This book discusses at length the remodeling by default of GT methodology by ascendant methods of qualitative data analysis. It's effort is to free GT from many aspects and procedures of descriptive, qualitative methods, which remodel GT so it can be fully conceptual
